The territory of the Costa dei Trabocchi, the ancient fishing machines from which the coastal stretch takes its name, covers 17 municipalities in the province of Chieti, overlooks the Adriatic Sea for more than 50 km from Francavilla to San Salvo, and extends inland to embrace portions of the Medio Vastese and Chietino Ortonese areas.
The coast offers an extremely varied landscape: sandy beaches alternate with coves that can only be reached by sea, rocky cliffs with rare coastal dunes. A characteristic feature is the presence of the Trabocchi, particularly in the municipalities between San Vito and Vasto. In just a few kilometres, you go from the seashore to the hilly landscape behind, to the first peaks of the central eastern Apennines. An extraordinary proximity between the land and the sea, a rich variety of Mediterranean vegetation, no less than seven protected areas, dozens of historic centres and the widespread presence of vineyards and olive groves, make it the ideal place to embrace seemingly unequal realities.
Tourism is booming, thanks in particular to the high value of the environmental, cultural-historical and architectural heritage, well-kept traditions, excellent cuisine and typical quality products. Characteristics that make the entire region special.

Il territorio della Costa dei Trabocchi, antiche macchine da pesca da cui il tratto costiero prende nome, interessa 17 comuni ricadenti nella provincia di Chieti, si affaccia sul mar Adriatico per oltre 50 km da Francavilla a San Salvo, e si estende nell’entroterra fino ad abbracciare porzioni di territorio del Medio Vastese e del Chietino Ortonese.
La costa offre un paesaggio estremamente variegato: spiagge sabbiose si alternano a calette raggiungibili esclusivamente via mare, scogliere rocciose a rare dune costiere. Elemento caratteristico è la presenza appunto dei Trabocchi, in particolar modo nei comuni compresi tra san Vito e Vasto. In pochi chilometri si passa dal litorale marino al retrostante paesaggio collinare, alle prime cime dell’Appennino centro orientale. Una straordinaria vicinanza tra la terra e il mare, una ricca varietà di vegetazione mediterranea, ben sette aree protette, decine di centri storici e la presenza diffusa di vigneti e oliveti, lo rendono il luogo ideale per abbracciare realtà apparentemente tra loro poco omogenee.
Il turismo risulta essere in forte crescita, grazie in particolar modo all’elevato valore del patrimonio ambientale, storico-culturale ed architettonico, alle tradizioni ben custodite, una cucina eccellente e produzioni tipiche di qualità. Caratteristiche che rendono speciale l’intera regione.
