English Description
The parish church of Santa Maria La Nova, which already in 1330 became Provost and Archpriest, probably had a structure with five naves at that time, later reduced to three and finally to two with the renovation of 1826.
The facade, bordered at the top by a sloping roof and on the sides by two pilasters, was previously finished with plaster but has recently been restored proposing a new finish image with exposed stone masonry.
Worthy of note are the elegant portal by Matteo De Caprio from 1424, which has a mosaic in the lunette made up of 44 ceramic tiles depicting the Annunciation, and higher up a rose window made up of a wheel of eight small columns supporting small arches in the centre; the wheel is contained within a carved display of acanthus leaves.
Of notable interest is a Renaissance-style funeral monument located in the choir, behind the high altar, dedicated to Giovanni Battista Acquaviva who died at the age of just 14 in 1496.

La chiesa parrocchiale di Santa Maria La Nova, che già nel 1330 divenne Prepositura e Arcipretura, probabilmente presentava a quei tempi una struttura a cinque navate, poi ridotte a tre e infine a due con la ristrutturazione del 1826.
La facciata, delimitata in sommità da una copertura a spioventi e ai lati da due paraste, precedentemente era rifinita ad intonaco ma di recente è stata restaurata proponendo una nuova immagine di finitura con muratura a vista di pietrame.
Degni di rilievo sono l’elegante portale opera di Matteo De Caprio del 1424, che presenta nella lunetta un mosaico composto da 44 formelle in ceramica raffigurante l’Annunciazione, e più in alto un rosone composto da una ruota di otto colonnine sostenenti archetti a pieno centro; la ruota è contenuta entro una mostra intagliata di foglie di acanto.
Di notevole interesse, un monumento funebre di stile rinascimentale posto nel coro, dietro l’altare maggiore, dedicato a Giovanni Battista Acquaviva morto a soli 14 anni nel 1496.
