The Museo Archeologico Civico Capitolare is housed in a complex of 18th-century buildings owned by the Atri Co-Cathedral Chapter and restored thanks to an intervention by the Ministry of Cultural and Environmental Heritage. The first room is a tribute to the figure and work of Vincenzo Rosati, director of the ancient School of Arts and Crafts of the Atri Orphanage, who dedicated his activity as an archaeological scholar to excavations in the Atri area and neighbouring territories and arranged for the collection of the numerous materials found there. The room now exhibits a large quantity of artefacts that came to light in Atri, Penne and Arsita (mainly ornamental objects and containers of different shapes used for various purposes) and in the ancient Italic temple discovered in Colle San Giorgio (where decorative architectural elements such as antefixes and cladding slabs were recovered). The second room is dedicated to the prehistory of the Abruzzo region and displays reproductions of tools, hunting instruments and ceramic objects made using different techniques, in use between the Palaeolithic and the early Iron Age. The archaeological evidence for the Atria area comes mainly from the excavations carried out at Colle Maralto, which brought to light a settlement frequented between the end of the Bronze Age and the early Iron Age.

The room is equipped with educational panels illustrating the chronological phases and manufacturing processes of the objects on display. The third room is undoubtedly the most evocative, thanks to the display of two intact burials excavated in the early 20th century and the grave goods found in twenty-two burials unearthed in the same years in the necropolises of Atri, Colle della Giustizia and Pretara and dating back to the 6th century BC.

Il Museo Archeologico Civico Capitolare è allestito all'interno di un complesso di edifici settecenteschi, di proprietà del Capitolo Concattedrale di Atri e restaurati grazie ad un intervento del Ministero per i Beni Culturali ed Ambientali. La prima sala è un omaggio alla figura e all'opera di Vincenzo Rosati, direttore dell'antica Scuola di Arti e Mestieri dell'Orfanotrofio di Atri, il quale dedicò la sua attività di studioso di archeologia agli scavi nella zona di Atri e in territori limitrofi e provvide alla raccolta dei numerosi materiali ivi rinvenuti. La sala espone oggi una grande quantità di reperti venuti alla luce ad Atri, Penne ed Arsita (si tratta soprattutto di oggetti ornamentali e contenitori di differenti forme adibiti ad usi vari) e nell'antico tempio italico scoperto a Colle San Giorgio (dove sono stati recuperati elementi architettonici decorativi quali antefisse e lastre di rivestimento). La seconda sala è dedicata alla Preistoria del territorio abruzzese ed espone riproduzioni di utensili, strumenti da caccia ed oggetti in ceramica realizzati con tecniche diverse, in uso tra il Paleolitico e la prima età del Ferro. Le testimonianze archeologiche per il territorio atriano provengono soprattutto dagli scavi effettuati a Colle Maralto, i quali hanno portato alla luce un insediamento frequentato tra la fine dell'età del Bronzo e la prima età del Ferro. La sala è corredata di pannelli didattici in cui sono illustrate le fasi cronologiche e i processi di fabbricazione degli oggetti esposti. La terza sala è senza dubbio la più suggestiva, grazie all'esposizione di due sepolture integre scavate nei primi del '900 e dei corredi funerari trovati in ventidue sepolture rinvenute negli stessi anni nelle necropoli di Atri, Colle della Giustizia and Pretara e databili al VI secolo a. C.
